We’ve put together a list of some of the best shops for sourcing sustainable products across Wales for when you want waste free, environmentally friendly shopping experiences.
Viva Organic – 79 Pontcanna Street, Cardiff, CF11 9HS
“We will also be introducing lunchtime food bowls and paninis, as well as offering vegetable boxes which we will deliver to our customers. There is a lot more to come from Viva Organic, but as our shop’s namesake, we are going to go slow and let it grow organically.”
Starting in the capital, shoppers in Cardiff can now go to the organic food store Viva Organic, which has a wide range of fruit, veg, herbs and spices. The weigh station makes going plastic-free really easy with grains, pastas and cereals to weigh out. As well as the food stuffs, there’s a good selection of household items, cleaning supplies and detergents.
Plant 2 Plate – 1JR, 82 Cardiff Rd, Caerphilly
Plant 2 Plate was established to provide healthy additive-free meals in a ready-made format to the South Wales area.
Plant 2 Plate is a service supporting those in the community who find it harder to get out to the shops, and helping people to stay independent through delivering healthy additive-free ready meals. They now have a growing selection of zero waste products, such bamboo tooth brushes, local beeswax wraps and over 15 loose spices.
La Vida Verde – Park Cres, Llandrindod Wells LD1 6AB
La Vida Verde stocks plenty of local fresh foods, runs an excellent veg box scheme (which has plenty of 5 star reviews) and a good selection of refills available for vinegars, spices and herbs.
If you are stopping by La Vida Verde make sure you visit the zero waste café next door, which is bringing a zero waste ethos to Llandrindod Wells.
Monmouthshire – Upcycle 6 Station Rd, Chepstow NP16 5PB
The Monmouthshire upcycle centre helps extend the life of furniture and decorations, removing the energy consumption needed to create these products again from new. They have an eco store inside which stocks refills for soaps and washing detergents.
Ruthin Wholefoods – 58-60 Well St, Ruthin LL15 1AW
Ruthin Wholefoods was taken over by the new owners in 2015 and has launched a range of sustainable products since, by taking the business from its primary focus of health into including sustainability Ruthin Wholefoods now stocks a range of plastic free snacks and packing free fruit and veg.
They have refills available for detergents and loose herbs and spices with an ever growing selection of bulk products including cereals, dried fruits and nuts.
Natural Weigh – Shop 1, The Corn Exchange, 54 High St, Crickhowell NP8 1BH
“Natural Weigh aims to offer the alternative. Our purpose is to provide customers a chance to choose a plastic free option when doing their regular shop.
